Leeds United's a player shields the ball from the opposition's Leny Yoro in the top-flight clash at their home ground. At a Glance Calvert-Lewin watches a first-half header come back off the upright. Aaronson puts the home side ahead with a low effort in the second period. Cunha equalises just three minutes later. The Yorkshire side extend their best top-flight undefeated streak since the turn of the century. The Red Devils' disappointing run of form continued at Leeds' fortress, but manager Ruben Amorim had his Brazilian forward to thank for the team avoiding even more disappointment against their old rivals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin directed a first-period attempt against the woodwork for the in-form home team before the American midfielder finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute effort. With the goal, the United boss was under intense scrutiny after his side had been held by struggling Wolves at home earlier in the week. Nevertheless, against opponents who had less time to recover, the forward levelled three minutes after the opener when he latched onto a through ball from substitute the Dutchman and guided a finish underneath rushing Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the Brazilian's fourth goal since his high-profile summer move and came at a time when Amorim is without four key attacking players due to a combination of fitness issues and national team commitments. Not that you would expect Leeds to care about that given their own lack of preparation time. Noah Okafor forced a full length save out of visiting goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and United heads were in hands when Benjamin Sesko, who is finding it hard to make an impact, turned his teammate's cut-back wide from six yards out. Cunha, who had a goal ruled out for offside much earlier in the match, also blasted against a post in the dying moments. The draw extends the home side's unbeaten run to seven games, their best such streak since 2001, and takes them eight points clear of the relegation zone. For the Manchester United though, it was yet another opportunity to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a short time, squandered. Manchester United Breakdown: The Manager's Side Struggle Again With the Africa Cup of Nations reaching its knockout phase, the United coach could be forgiven for hoping the participating nations make a pretty quick exit. Current injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount only heightened the impact the unavailability of other forwards is having on Amorim's squad. It's not that the absent players are the answer to all of United's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered poor results earlier in the season. But without them, the boss has few alternatives in attack. He clearly does not have full faith in teenager Shea Lacey or the seasoned Joshua Zirkzee, even though the Netherlands forward delivered the through ball for the equaliser almost instantly after his arrival as a substitute. That leaves Cunha, who has now scored a small tally in recent outings, and others playing out of their natural positions, alongside Benjamin Sesko. On this evidence, the big-money frontman looks similar to previous struggling signings, lacking in confidence and conviction in front of goal. His failure to turn home Zirkzee's cross means it is now a long run without a goal for the young striker. Leeds United Breakdown: A Further Step Towards Survival After thrilling victories in their last few home games, the arrival of their biggest rivals to Elland Road was a bit drab affair. True, there were moments of typical fervor, but the hostile edge was not as pronounced as in previous fixtures. Leeds' fans were more preoccupied about their side's inability to get worthwhile possession in dangerous areas for any length of time. The Calvert-Lewin header that struck the post was an isolated moment of threat in a congested first half. It still felt as though Leeds were finding it tough when a defensive error opened the door for Aaronson. For a short moment, The home delirious fans thought they were about to secure a coveted win against their old foes. Nevertheless, there is a much bigger picture for the manager and Leeds to deal with. When they endured a difficult run of form earlier in the campaign, many speculated about the manager's future. Instead, he is now masterminding significant progress. The task is not completed yet but gradually, Leeds are getting nearer to securing their survival. Looking Ahead The Yorkshire club have a top-flight trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their domestic cup campaign next weekend. The Red Devils face a league trip to Turf Moor before also beginning their cup journey with a home tie.
